After graduating from Otago, Ed began his career as a house surgeon at Dunedin Public Hospital, followed by five years in private general practice in London. He developed a group practice, with a multi disciplinary approach to dentistry in downtown Auckland City.

• He has an extensive track record of active participation in the profession and holds various New Zealand and international society affiliations.
• He was founder President and Life member of the NZ Society of Endodontics,
• founding member NZ Society of Implant Dentistry (1987).
• Member of the NZ Dental Association Executive 1989 -1993 becoming Chairman of the Economic & Practice Management Committee.
• President of the Auckland Dental Association (ADA) 1994-1995
• Co- founder and President of the New Zealand Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (2004-2009).
• Elected member of the NZ Dental Council (2002-2009)
• Ed also sits on the Advisory Board to the Graduate School of Business, University of Auckland.(1997-2009)
